Fuel Tank & Storage Mod
Since there were no plans to carry
a passenger, the space was redone to put the fuel tanks right
on the CG and add a storage space where the tanks originally were.
All it took to mount the tanks side
by side were 2 diagonals from just in front of the gear leg bases
to the cross tube that originally supported the front of the passenger
seat, the original tank pan sits on these. Another tube from the
center of the passenger seat support tube runs up to the top center
crossover.
Here you see the structure for the
storage bin, 1/4" steel tube, & on the right; covered
with 2 layers of Stits. The lower right picture shows the transponder
tray on the boom tube. Terrible idea. Impossible to get to or
work on. Just ahead of it and to the right is the aluminum angle
for the battery rack for the 18AH battery. That is OK.
Here is how it looks assembled.
Facet pump, fuel filter, gascolator made from a generic Autozone
fuel filter - rip out the paper guts, drill a hole in the bottom,
a standard rubber fuel tank insert & 90 degree fitting to
the drain valve. All plumbing is aluminum or rubber fuel tubing.
No plastic/Tygon/urethane allowed!
